There are three types of poker limits: no limit, limit, and pot limit.

To be able to play online poker for real money, you must understand how each limit works. A player chooses a table based on the limits set by the players. So, here's a brief introduction to poker betting limits and may this article help you play and win online poker for real money.

The Limit Poker

This is the most common type of poker betting limit that you'll see in both online and land-based casinos. The limit usually pertains to figures such as 2/4, which is for Texas Holdem, and 5/10 for the Omaha game. The wagers on Holdem and Omaha are made with the first two numbers. The wagers on the final two rounds refer to the second number. In a 7-card Stud, however, the first number refers to the limit for the first two rounds, and the second number refers to the limit for the final three rounds.

If limit is the typical poker betting, poker limit is the most popular form of betting. When players agree to do a pot limit, each of the gamblers on the table is allowed to bet any amount that is up to or equal the size of the poker pot.

Some poker beginners or those who are not so familiar with pot limit can get confused, specifically on who determines the amount of money (and the maximum amount) for the pot. Remember that a player placing a bet in a pot should have the total, which must include the amount of any previous called bet. If the stake is 10, and the player has placed a bet of 5, then the next gambler can choose to fold, call or raise the wager to 20 (the maximum pot size). The maximum pot size can be calculated as 10 + 5 + 5 + 5 = 20.

There is no limit

This is the type used in televised poker tournaments. The limits guidelines have only two rules. The minimum size of a raise must equal the previous round's wager. So any bet has to be as huge as the big blind.
